Port Isaac Cornwall
Port Isaac is a traditional Cornish fishing village with a natural harbour into the Altantic. Fishermen still work from the harbour bringing their catch of fish, crab and lobsters past the Quay to The Platt at the head of the harbour in Port Isaac.
Port Isaac is nestled in a narrow sheltered valley between steep
cliffs, with narrow streets and alleyways and whitewashed cottages. A popular tourist destination for many years,
but retains its traditional character and
remains unspoilt.
There are several restaurants in Port Isaac, many specialising in local seafood serving snacks, lunches and evening meals. There are local arts and crafts shops including pottery and paintings and screen prints, as well as everyday essentials and a pub.
Port Isaac is an area of 'Outstanding Natural Beauty',
in
a 'Heritage Coast' area. And the
Southwest
Coast Footpath passes
through the village, leading northwards through Port Gaverne, Trebarwith
Strand to
Tintagel
and southwards through Port Quinn to Polzeath. There are many lovely
walks both along the
Southwest coast
footpath as well as inland.
Port Isaac is known to many TV viewers as Portwenn in the popular ITV Doc Martin series. Four seasons of Doc Martin have been filmed in and around the village and a fifth season is to be filmed in 2011. Visit Port Isaac in 2011 and stay at The Bay Hotel and you may see the new Doc Martin series being filmed.
Port Isaac is the home of 'The Fishermans Friends' sea shanty singers who all live and work in the Port Isaac area. In 2010 The Fishermans Friends Port Isaac achieved global success with a £1 million record deal with Universal.
